Ion Cyclotron Resonance (ICR) Program, National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (National MagLab). The MagLab is operated for the National Science Foundation by a collaboration of institutions comprising Florida State University, the University of Florida, and Los Alamos National Laboratory and houses the world's premier ICR laboratory, with state-of-the-art FT-ICR mass spectrometers that operate at 21 T, 14.5 T, 9.4 T, and 9.4 T, for research in chemistry, materials science, engineering, geochemistry, biochemistry, and biology. Current areas include natural organic matter, emerging environmental contaminants, biofuels, top-down proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, and mass spectrometry imaging.

Responsibilities

The ICR Program seeks a research faculty member with emphasis on ICR instrumentation development. The candidate is expected to support external ICR users, attract new users, and develop improved ICR instrumentation. The candidate will collaborate with NHMFL staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, publish manuscripts, present at scientific conferences, and prepare applications for external grant support. In addition, the successful applicant will maintain and troubleshoot existing ICR instrumentation and oversee instrument scheduling.

Qualifications

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a similar STEM field, postdoctoral training, at least 10 years of additional experience with mass spectrometry instrumentation development, experience in collaborative interdisciplinary research and working in a Team environment, and a record of significant scholarly activity in the development of scientific instrumentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired qualifications include experience with SIMION software, ICR cell design, ultrahigh vacuum system design, ion optics design, design of low noise electronics, and development of machine shop drawings.
